BIO OF MS. SHARMIN NAHAR NIPA
Ms. Sharmin Nahar Nipa has been working as a Coordinator in the Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Research (C3ER) of BRAC University where she is involved in research as well as teaching. She obtained her first MSc in Geography and Environment from Janangirnagar University and her second MSc in Disaster Management from the University of Dhaka. She has more than twelve years of working experience in the fields of Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation, Disaster Management, Natural Resource Management, Policy formulation and advocacy, Climate Change Proposal Development, Training Module development and roll-out, etc. She was involved in many policy formulation initiatives of the country, such as the National Adaptation Plan (NAP), National Determined Contributions (NDC), Bangladesh Climate Change Gender Action Plan (BccGAP), Sector Action Plan of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (SAPECC), etc. Ms Nipa has been taking different courses, i.e., Environmental Science and Economic Geography, Climate Change in the undergraduate programme of BRAC University. Moreover, she has been coordinating several capacity-building trainings for high-level government officials, Researchers, practitioners, NGOs and INGOs officials on Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation, Disaster Management, Climate Change Adaptation Integration into Government Planning Procedures, Climate Finance and Climate Change Proposal Development, etc. She rolled out capacity-building training for more than 700 high-level government officials over the years. Along with this, Ms Nipa has also trained other vulnerable groups like women, children, youth, and persons with disabilities groups on climate change and disaster risk management aspects.
