Masterclass on climate resilient infrastructure

Bangladesh, one of the most climate-vulnerable countries, faces major challenges in protecting its infrastructure. Despite national plans, limited technical and institutional capacity hampers resilience efforts. This masterclass focuses on building climate-resilient infrastructure through Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs), covering climate science, risk management, Nature-Based Solutions, policy, finance, and technology to enable sustainable project development.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to-

·         Explain basic concepts of climate change, global warming, greenhouse gas and its consequences

·         Describe the climate change impact & vulnerabilities

·         Identify climate risks and vulnerabilities affecting PPP projects and assess their potential impacts.

·         Apply Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) to enhance infrastructure resilience and sustainability.

·         Can assess potential vulnerabilities and risk in PPP projects

·         Monitor, evaluate, and implement learning mechanisms for resilience PPP projects.

 

Course structure

The course is structured into three modules, which consist of face-to-face sessions and e-learning materials.  It will provide thematic knowledge as well as equipping learners with methodological competences.

Module 1: Climate Change and Overview of Resilient Infrastructure

·         Climate Science and Basics

·         Climate Change Risk, Impact and vulnerability

·         Overview of Resilient Infrastructure

·         Integration of Climate Resilience Measures

·         Policy and Regulatory Framework to address climate change

Module 2: Infrastructure Resilience in the Lense of Nature Based Solutions

·         Nature-based Solutions (NbS) in Changing Climate

·         Infrastructure Risks, Resilience and Nature Based Solutions

·         Linking Infrastructure Resilience with Nature-Based Solutions

·         Planning and Designing with Nature-Based Solutions

 

Module 3: Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) in Infrastructure Projects

·         Introduction to PPPs in Bangladesh

·         Embedding Resilience in the framework of PPP

·         Examples and case studies highlighting vulnerabilities and risks in PPPs

·         Policy support and financing opportunities for climate resilient infrastructure

 

Module 4: Field Observation

·         Explore resilience house model


Course Methodology

The training will follow Harvard Case Method, use a mix of lectures, case studies, group work, interactive exercises, documentaries, and assessments, led by expert trainers to ensure an engaging and practical learning experience.

Open to public and private sector professionals working in climate change, resilience, sustainable development, and green infrastructure—including government officials, NGO/INGO staff, and corporate professionals.


Course Duration: Total duration is 7 days in consecutive 3 months.
