Faria Kabir, Research Associate in Research Development and GIS at the Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Research (C3ER), BRAC University, participated in the Building Earth Observation Capacities to Address the Water-Energy-Food (WEF) Nexus in Asia workshop, held from November 9-11, 2024, at Chiang Mai University, Thailand. The workshop, organized by Michigan State University Asia Hub, aimed to enhance the region’s capacity in Earth Observation (EO) technologies to address the complex challenges of the WEF Nexus.
During the event, Faria contributed to discussions on GISDTA’s work on the Space Value Chain, digital twins, and climate-smart agriculture. The workshop also explored Thailand’s initiatives leveraging EO for sustainable resource management. Faria actively engaged in sessions on integrating satellite data, such as THEOS and MODIS, to enhance water and food security and drive agricultural monitoring and disaster management innovations. Practical exercises using Google Earth Engine allowed participants to develop technical expertise in utilizing EO data to assess variables such as soil moisture, crop health, and carbon tracking, which are critical to advancing climate-resilient solutions.
Faria’s participation in this workshop reflects her commitment to strengthening research at the intersection of Earth Observation and the WEF Nexus, contributing to the global dialogue on sustainable resource management.
