Ms. Sadia Jahan Rothi, Environmental Management and Youth Engagement Specialist from the Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Research(C3ER), BRAC University, participated in the Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) 2024.
It provided an interactive platform for deliberations, knowledge sharing, and collaboration amongst young climate professionals, activists, researchers, and policymakers to build capacity in climate diplomacy, advocacy, and policy negotiation skills and emphasized the importance of youth empowerment in climate policy discourse.
At the beginning of the conference, Ms Sadia presented the Bangladesh Youth Statement 2024- a set of actionable policy recommendations that will be taken to COP29 next month amidst outstanding contributions by Bangladeshi youth toward the Global Climate Dialogue. In the closing plenary, she shared how youth can be engaged in COP and UNFCCC processes. She also shared her insights on the importance of meaningful and effective youth participation nationally, regionally and globally.
The event was joined by 100 participants, alongside 50 youth delegates, government officials, and delegates from international organisations. The conference was graced by Dr Abdul Hamid, Director General, Department of Environment, Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and Md Mamunur Rashid, Joint Secretary (WH Wing), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare as Special Guests.
