Assistant Director of C3ER, BRAC University Speaks at National Dialogue on Climate Finance

A National Dialogue titled “Climate Justice in Climate Finance: Climate Debt Trap Risks for Bangladesh and Other LDCs” was held on 20 October at the CIRDAP Auditorium. The event brought together policymakers, donor agencies, civil society representatives, and climate finance experts to explore sustainable climate finance solutions for Least Developed Countries (LDCs). The dialogue underscored the need to shift towards grant-based climate finance and emphasized international cooperation to ensure that Bangladesh and other LDCs are not burdened with unsustainable debt.

Ms. Roufa Khanum, Assistant Director of the Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Research (C3ER) at BRAC University, participated as a speaker, offering valuable insights on equitable climate financing solutions. In her remarks, Ms. Khanum stressed the importance of preventing LDCs from shouldering the financial responsibility of combating climate change and advocating for fair financing mechanisms. The event’s Chief Guest, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Honorable Adviser, Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEFCC), highlighted the critical need for climate justice. She called for more substantial international support to help vulnerable nations address the growing challenges of climate change. The dialogue served as a significant platform to promote climate justice, urging the global community to address the disproportionate impact of climate change on LDCs while fostering financial strategies that avoid deepening their economic vulnerabilities.
