C3ER, BRAC University Hosted “Road to Baku-COP29: Bangladesh CSOs at the Forefront of Climate Resilience”

The Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Research (C3ER), BRAC University, in collaboration with 19 other organizations, hosted the event “Road to Baku-COP29: Bangladesh CSOs at the Forefront of Climate Resilience” on 20 October 2024 at the Department of Environment. The event convened representatives from government bodies, NGOs, CSOs, and climate activists across Bangladesh to present a comprehensive position paper outlining key negotiation priorities for the upcoming 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29). The participants shared valuable insights based on their work in climate-vulnerable areas of Bangladesh, focusing on the country’s critical concerns for the COP29 negotiations. Ms. Roufa Khanum, Assistant Director of C3ER, BRAC University, advocated CSO’s stance on “Global Goal on Adaptation” for COP29.

The event was graced by Ms. Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor for the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of Bangladesh, as the Chief Guest. She reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to limiting global temperature rise to within 1.5 degrees Celsius. She also emphasized the importance of adaptation measures, particularly engaging youth in climate action, and stressed the need for ambitious global mitigation efforts. The event concluded with a collective call for stronger advocacy at COP29 to ensure that the voices of vulnerable nations like Bangladesh are heard and represented in global climate negotiations.
