Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Research (C3ER) successfully organized a workshop titled “Adoption of Gender Responsive and Circular Economy in Bangladesh” on March 11, 2024, at the CIRDAP International Conference Centre, Dhaka, in partnership with Nature Conservation Management (NACOM). This workshop was a part of the “Climate Promise – From Pledge to Impact” project funded by The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC); aimed to advance gender-responsive and inclusive circular economy in national development plans.
Dr. Mohammad Asaduzzaman, Circular Economy Expert (National) & Mr. Sachin Pant Circular Economy Expert (International) were the keynote speakers of the workshop. They both guided through an informative keynote presentation on “Gender Responsive and Socially-inclusive Circular Economy for Climate Change Mitigation in Bangladesh”.
Stakeholders from various sectors assembled in discussions and presentations led by experts during the workshop. The event commenced with opening remarks and a project brief presentation by Mr. Arif Faisal, Programme Specialist, Nature, Climate and Energy, UNDP Bangladesh.
Thematic groups explored gender-responsive institutional coordination mechanisms for NDC implementation, moderated by Dr. Zaki Uz Zaman, Representative, UNIDO Bangladesh. Experts including Prof. Dr. A. K. Enamul Haque, Dean, Faculty of Business and Economics, East West University, Dr. Md. Tarek Uddin Professor, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Islamic University of Technology (IUT) and Prof. Ijaz Hossain, Former Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering, BUET led discussions on various thematic areas. The workshop concluded with a speech by the Special Guest, Ms. Astrid Herdis Jacobsen, Green Growth Specialist, UNDP Bangladesh, and closing remarks by chair Dr. Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, Economist, and Chairman, Dhaka School of Economics (DSE).
