Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Research (C3ER) successfully organized a workshop titled “Gender Mainstreaming Strategy for Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) Implementations in Bangladesh” on March 10, 2024, at the CIRDAP International Conference Centre, Dhaka, in partnership with Nature Conservation Management (NACOM). This workshop was a part of the “Climate Promise – From Pledge to Impact” project funded by The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), aimed to advance gender mainstreaming in Bangladesh’s climate action plans, with a focus on Nationally-determined Contributions (NDCs).
Ms. Roufa Khanum, Assistant Director at C3ER, BRAC University, guided through an informative presentation on Gender Mainstreaming Guidelines, Action Plan, and Institutional Coordination Mechanism for NDC implementation. Thematic groups explored gender-responsive institutional coordination mechanisms for NDC implementation, moderated by Prof. Sharmind Neelormi, Department of Economics, Jahangirnagar University. Experts, including Prof. Ijaz Hossain, Prof M A A Shoukat Choudhury, Prof. Shoeb Ahmed, and Mr. Asaduzzaman, led discussions on various thematic areas.
Stakeholders from various sectors engaged in discussions and presentations led by experts. The event commenced with opening remarks by Mr. Arif Faisal, Programme Specialist, Nature, Climate and Energy, UNDP, followed by a welcome speech by Dr. Ainun Nishat, Professor Emeritus and Advisor, C3ER, BRAC University. The workshop concluded with a speech by the Chief Guest, Ms. Keya Khan, Director General, Department of Women Affairs, and closing remarks by Dr. S.M. Munjurul Hannan Khan, PhD, Executive Director, Nature Conservation Management (NACOM). The event was a significant step towards enhancing gender mainstreaming efforts within Bangladesh’s climate action plans.
