Empowering Tomorrow: Unveiling Gender-Inclusive Nature Solutions for Climate Resilience in Bangladesh at COP28

C3ER successfully organized another significant event at COP28 in Dubai, UAE, on December 8, 2023. The event’s focus was the Bangladesh Pavilion, where the theme “Gender Inclusive Nature-Based Solutions for Climate Action in Bangladesh” took centre stage. This event was conducted in collaboration with Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK), aiming to shed light on the impacts of climate change on ethnic communities and individuals with disabilities. It also highlighted the importance of gender-responsive nature-based solutions in mitigating the adverse effects of climate change.

Distinguished guests graced the occasion, with Ms Habibun Nahar, MP, Hon’ble Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), serving as the Chief Guest. Dr. Farhina Ahmed, Secretary, MoEFCC, and Dr. Fahmida Khanom, Additional Secretary (Development), MOEFCC, added to the event’s prestige as Special Guests.

The esteemed panellists for the event included Mr M Abdus Salam, Chief Executive of Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK), Mr Kazu Amdadul Hoque, Senior Director and Head of Climate Action at Friendship, and Mr Keramut Ullah Biplob, Senior Journalist at ATN Bangla. Their diverse expertise contributed to a comprehensive discussion on the issues at hand.

The event featured keynote presentations by Dr Nandan Mukherjee, a Fellow at the Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Research (C3ER), BRAC University, and Mr Subir Kumar Saha, Coordinator at Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK). Their insights added depth to understanding climate change challenges and potential solutions.

Ms. Sharmin Nahar Nipa, Coordinator at C3ER, BRAC University, skillfully moderated the session, ensuring a smooth flow of ideas and discussions. Overall, the event brought together key stakeholders to address the critical issue of climate change impacts in Bangladesh, emphasizing the significance of gender-inclusive and nature-based solutions for a sustainable future.
